Sayagyi U Ba Khin & Mother Sayamagyi
International Meditation Center in Myanmar
On the full moon day of Kasone (May 8th 1952) Sayagyi U Ba Khin laid down the foundation for the pagoda, which was then built during the rainy season. By November it was finished, and the official dedication was held on November 9th 1952.
Sayamagyi was given a place by Sayagyi to sit in the central shrine room just behind and to the right of Sayagyi U Ba Khin. Whenever Sayagyi U Ba Khin gave anapana or vipassana during a course, or when a student had reached a high stage of development and needed Sayagyi’s special attention, Sayamagyi was always present at his side. In order to make his point clear to us, Sayagyi started to call her Sayama, lady teacher. (U Tint Yee).
Sayagyi passed away on January 19th 1971. After that Mother Sayamagyi and Sayagyi U Chit Tin taught at the IMC along with Sayagyi U Tint Yee, the president of the Vipassana Association of the Accountant General’s Office.
When Mother Sayamagyi and Sayagyi U Chit Tin left Burma to teach in the west, Mother Sayamagyi handed the teaching over to Sayagyi U Tint Yee who taught at the center until his death.
Sayagyi U Tint Yee was assisted in teaching by Saya U Khin Zaw who took on most of the teaching when U Tint Yee was getting older. Now Saya U Khin Zaw continues to teach at the IMC in Yangon.
